Yousaf Gilani’s election challenged, petition moved before ECP

A petition has been filed with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) challenging the election of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to the Senate.

The petitioner submitted that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) joint candidate’s election should be declared “null and void” as the polls were not transparent.

The petitioner requested that the allegations of rigging in elections should be investigated, saying that the ECP did not use latest technology despite the directions of the Supreme Court.

The petitioner pleaded the ECP not to issue a notification of Gilani’s win in the election.

He requested the ECP to investigate the allegation of horse trading and take action against those responsible for the crime.

The petitioner also sought action against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz and Ali Gilani for their alleged rigging. He presented Ali Gilani’s video clip and Maryam’s statement as evidences of rigging.

He sought registration of cases against Ali Gilani and Maryam for the violation of sections 167, 168 and 170 of the Election Act.
