Pakistani team on the back foot as New Zealand post a mammoth 599-6 in first innings

Once again, Pakistan is way behind in the Test match as they trail by 294 in the second innings. Shan Masood’s horrid series continued as he went back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers. Abid Ali and Muhammad Abbas survived Tim Southee and Trent Boult’s burst till stumps on Day 3.

It was a long day for Pakistan as New Zealand piled on the misery and now are way ahead in the game. Pakistan’s only hope was to get rid of the Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls early with the new ball. When that didn’t happen it was always going to be difficult. By the time it was lunch, Kiwis had already reached 400 and were leading Pakistan by 103.

Kane Williamson scored his fourth double century in Test. Henry Nicholls made a fantastic 157. Muhammad Abbas was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 2 wickets for 98 runs in 34 overs. His spell included 11 maidens. Shaheen picked up 2 while Naseem Shah had another tough outing. The debutant, Zafar Gohar was not only expensive but was unsuccessful in keeping a lid on the scoring rate.

Daryl Mitchell scored a quick century and remained not out on 102. Kyle Jamieson also chipped in with a 30.

Clouds of an innings defeat loom over Pakistan however they should take confidence from their fightback in the last Test match.
