Weekly inflation increases by 0.12pc

The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group increased by 0.12 per cent during the week ended Aug 05, 2021, while the SPI increased by 12.4 per cent compared to the corresponding period from last year.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the Combined Index was at 150.88 compared to 150.7 on Jul 29, 2021, while the index was recorded at 134.23 a year ago, on Aug 05, 2020

Out of the 51 monitored items, the average price of 17 items increased, 11 items decreased, whereas 23 items registered no change during the week.

The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed a mixed trend with SPI ranging between -0.1 per cent and 0.2 per cent.

The Lowest Income Group witnessed a weekly decrease of 0.1 per cent, while the highest income group recorded 0.2 per cent.

Every year, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 11.56 per cent and 15.79 per cent.

Yearly, SPI for the Lowest Income Group increased by 15.79 per cent, while the highest income group recorded an increase of 11.87 per cent.

The average price of Sona urea stood at Rs.1765 per 50 kg bag, which is 0.57 per cent higher than last week’s price and 6.97 per cent higher when compared to the previous year.

Meanwhile, the average Cement price was recorded at Rs.669 per 50 kg bag, 2.29 per cent higher than the previous week and 20.11 per cent higher than prices last year.
