Earlier this morning, Prime Minister Imran Khan took to Twitter to share ‘great news’ with the people of Pakistan, stating how the economy was ‘finally’ gearing towards the right direction.
As opposed to last year, Pakistan’s current account saw a surplus of $73 million in September, bringing the first quarter’s surplus to $792 million. Previously, it incurred a deficit of $1492 million, said Khan.
‘Great news for Pakistan. We are headed in right direction finally. Current Account was in surplus of $73 mn during Sept, bringing surplus for 1st qtr to $792 mn compared to deficit of $1,492 mn during same time last yr. Exports grew 29% & remittances grew 9% over previous month.’ the Prime Minister tweeted.
Reducing the current account deficit has been a much publicized policy promise of the PTI.
