US climate envoy to visit Japan and China

Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry is set to have negotiations with Japan and China on Tuesday

US climate envoy John Kerry will visit Japan and China ahead of a key summit on global warming.

The State Department said in a statement on Monday that Kerry will visit Tianjin to “continue discussions on keys aspects of the climate crisis.” The visit is planned for Tuesday.

The former Secretary of State is also set to meet international counterparts in Tokyo to “discuss efforts to drive collective climate action”.

The negotiations are happening due to the COP26 climate summit to be held in Glasgow, Scotland in November.

US climate envoy John Kerry will embark on a visit to Japan and China Tuesday as Washington tries to build momentum ahead of a key summit on combatting global warming set for November.

The tour is an example of “the United States’ bilateral and multilateral efforts to raise climate ambition”.

Kerry visited Shanghai in mid-April, and the two nations released a joint statement saying they would cooperate to face the climate crisis.

As floods, hurricanes and fires devastate the world, climate change has become a phenomenon that cannot be ignored.

The UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report warned that the world is on course to reach 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming by around 2030.

The report shows the harsh reality that all of us must face and combat.
