Umer Sharif's body to be transported to Karachi on Wednesday

The body of veteran comedian Umer Sharif will be transported from Germany to Pakistan in the early hours of Wednesday. According to reports, the late artist’s corpse will be flown to Pakistan from Munich to Karachi by Turkish Airlines. Zarrin Ghazal, Sharif’s wife, will accompany the corpse to Karachi where his funeral prayers are scheduled at 3 p.m. tomorrow in Clifton.

Earlier on Monday, the famous comedian’s funeral prayers were offered in Germany at the Turkish Mosque in Nuremberg.

Meanwhile, Sindh Labour and Information Minister Saeed Ghani announced that the provincial government is making arrangements for Umer Sharif’s burial. He will be laid to rest in the Abdullah Shah Ghazi graveyard according to the legend’s desire, he tweeted. 

Umer Sharif died at the age of 66 at a hospital in Germany.

Dr. Tariq Shahab said the comedian was feeling fine during his dialysis. However, a subsequent heart attack proved fatal for him four hours after the dialysis at the Nuremberg South Hospital.

“We all made utmost efforts to save his life,” Dr. Tariq said.

Umer Sharif was to be flown to Washington on Saturday but after dialysis his condition deteriorated.

The legend was being taken to the US aboard an air ambulance but the flight had to make an emergency landing in Germany after his condition worsened. 

Sharif was born on April 19, 1955, in Liaquatabad, Karachi. The star was well-acclaimed as one of the biggest comedians in Asia.

UNDERPASS TO BE NAMED AFTER UMER

Earlier, Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab announced on Saturday that the underpass linking Shaheed-e-Millat Road and Haider Ali Road in Karachi will named after the legendary comedian. 

Wahab tweeted that the decision has been taken to recognize Sharif’s services.
