It seems the social distancing protocols in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are not important for the members of the KP Assembly, as after Health Minister Taimur Jhagra, two more lawmakers have attended an iftar party in complete violation of the SOPs.
According to a local media outlet, Bilawal Afridi, who is a member of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), and Shafiq Sher, an independent candidate, attended the dinner despite a ban on outdoor and indoor gathering. The attendees were seen violating coronavirus safety measures, the local media outlet reported.
Afridi reportedly told a media outlet that he attended the iftar party under “strict compliance of coronavirus protocols”.
Last week, a case was registered against Jhagra and the manager of a restaurant over an iftar dinner that violated the COVID-19 SOPs. The restaurant owner had allegedly asked the minister not to arrange the gathering but his reservations were in vain.
Pakistan has recorded 79 coronavirus deaths and 4,213 cases in the past 24 hours, as the country reported a positivity rate of over 9.1 per cent amid no let-up in the infections.
At least 24 people died on ventilators, while 5,377 are in a critical state in hospitals across Pakistan, reported the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC). At least 670 ventilators are occupied by the coronavirus patients across Pakistan.
