Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz on Saturday cancelled her visit to Karachi due to an upsurge in COVID-19 cases in the country.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, she said she took the decision to protect the lives of the people and the party workers as coronavirus cases have been surging at an alarming rate in the country during the ongoing third wave.
She expressed the hope that Karachiites would elect Miftah Ismael in the by-elections to National Assembly constituency NA 249.
The PML-N leader said that she was very excited to visit Karachi. “But the lives and health of the people of NA-249 are more important to me,” she added.
Maryam alleged that Shehbaz Sharif was defeated in the 2018 election by rigging.
Regarding Jahangir Tareen, she said the group is much bigger than presumed, adding that it contacted with the PML-N.
Maryam claimed that the PTI members do not want to contest election form the party platform as they know they will be rejected by the masses.
She said by changing clothes, there can never be a change, a possible reference to change of ministries by the PTI. Real change will come when Prime Minister Imran Khan will be ousted, she added.
About dismemberment of the PML-N, Maryam said she had been listening from her childhood that Sheen will emerge from Noon, a reference to Shehbaz Sharif and Nawaz Sharif, and vice versa. But the PML-N is still intact, she added.
Maryam parried a question about the rift with the People’s Party (PPP) and said to part ways with the PDM was its [PPP] own decision. She will not offer a comment on the PPP, she continued.
She said the PML-N has good relations with the PPP and the ANP. However, the PML-N is contesting elections against the PPP in Karachi, she added.
Maryam said Nawaz Sharif wanted to come back to the country. She once again denied rumours that she was going abroad and repeated her words that if she was presented a ticket and her passport on a plate, she would not leave the country.
