Shireen Mazari raises concerns over treatment of British Pakistanis in quarantine

People staying at the quarantine facilities have paid a hefty sum but they are not getting the basic facilitIes, says Shireen Mazari

Shireen Mazari, the Federal Minister for Human Rights, has also voiced her concerns about the lack of facilities given to the British Pakistani who are currently quarantining at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel in the United Kingdom.

She took to Twitter and said, “This is absolutely shameful – these people have paid 1750 pounds per person to undergo 10 days of compulsory quarantine in UK & are being treated in this inhumane manner simply bec they happen to be of Pak origin.”

The minister criticised the discriminatory behavior towards Pakistan and raise question marks over the authorities.

“This discriminatory approach towards Pakistanis and Britishers of Pak origin is yet another reflection of putting Pakistan in list of Red zone countries but leaving out states like India – which has one of the fastest spirals of Covid cases plus a new lethal variant also”

A video of a Pakistani made the news in which he described the issues they are currently facing in the quarantine. He said, “It’s a basic human rights issue. People have not received food for the three meals that were contractually supposed to be provided to the families.

The food that has been delivered has not been on time. Moreover, we are in the midst of the Holy Month of Ramadan. There are people who have fasted without receiving any food at all,” Shiekh lamented.

On April 2, Pakistan was added to UK’s red list amid concerns about new COVID-19 variants, such as those identified in South Africa and Brazil. Travellers from Pakistan need to go through a mandatory 10 day quarantine period.
