PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif lashed out at the government on Monday during the post-budget parliament session amid ruckus by the treasury members that forced Speaker Asad Qaiser to adjourn the session.
During his speech, the opposition leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif accused the government of deceiving the masses by presenting “fake” numbers in the budget.
He said the poor were suffering while the government claimed it was on the path to economic growth and prosperity.
He claimed that “if the economy has grown,” it could be only for the elite and those residing in the palaces of Bani Gala.
Shehbaz said he wished those who gave examples of “Riyasat-e-Madinah” would pay heed to the sufferings of the “widows, orphans and the destitute”.
Members of the Opposition, along with the PML-N president as well, thumped their desks as PML-N leader Mian Javed Latif attended the session after securing bail in a sedition case.
THE PPP: Senator Sherry Reman said the PPP had reservations over the government’s plans to hike the price of petroleum products.
The PPP leader said it was a joint plan of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and the federal government.
She said the people of Pakistan have already been facing high inflation and the government had “gifted” them an additional hike in petroleum prices.
Opposition leader in the Senate Yusaf Raza Gillani said during his tenure, the government had empowered Gilgit Baltistan through establishing a government of elected representatives there.
He said the PPP had passed the resolution in the Punjab Assembly to establish South Punjab province.
He asked the government to fulfil its promise to establish South Punjab province.
He slammed the government for violence on the protesting government employees who were demanding an increase in their salaries.
