ISLAMABAD: President Arif Alvi has summoned a session of the Senate on Monday.
A notification was issued by the Senate Secretariat that says that the session will start on April 5 at 10am.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 54 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the President has been pleased to summon the Senate to meet in the Parliament Building, Islamabad, on Monday, the 5th April, 2021, at 10:00 a.m.,” stated a notification.
It is the first session of the Senate after March 12 when chairman and deputy chairman were elected. The Senate session has been of extraordinary significance as the rift between the two major components of the opposition alliance PDM, the PPP and PML-N, over the appointment of Senator Yousaf Raza Gillani as the opposition leader has widened.
The PML-N has already announced that it will not recognise Gilani as the opposition leader.
