Saeed Ghani says exams will commence amid student protests

Students took to social media to register their protest against exams during COVID-19, with "#ExamCancelHoga" [exam must be cancelled] becoming the top Twitter trend on Monday.

Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani today announced that students will not be promoted to the next classes without examinations. His comment comes before an important meeting of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) with all education ministers scheduled tomorrow to decide whether educational institutions will remain closed in light of COVID-19.

The Sindh Education Department on Sunday announced the suspension of in-person classes for all schools till grade 8 in the province for 15 days from April 6. Saeed Ghani informed the public that the students will continue their education through online classes, homework, and other remote means during this period.

Meanwhile, private educational institutions are planning to stage protests against closing schools, as students across the country have been demanding the government to cancel board and O and A-Level exams this year.

Following the trend of last week, students took to social media to register their protest against exams during COVID-19, with “#ExamCancelHoga” [exam must be cancelled] becoming the top Twitter trend on Monday.

Some celebrities and media personalities also threw their weight behind the students’ demands. Singer Asim Azhar requested education minister Shafqat Mahmood to support the students.

“Students have really been disturbed due to the ongoing pandemic causing the institutes to close/open again & again. I personally know some students that haven’t been able to complete their syllabuses as well,” he wrote on Twitter.
