Resignations from parliament to add punch to long march, claims Fazal

The head of 11-party opposition alliance the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman has claimed that resignations from parliament have added a punch to the long march more effective.

Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, the Maulana said had the opposition not decided to resign from parliament, the long march would not have been so effective [the opposition parties claim that the leaderships have resignations of their members and move when needed].

He said the strategy for long march and resignations will be discussed in the PDM meeting being held tomorrow.

The long march will not be a single-day affair. It will continue for days and all the component parties of the PDM are ready to take part in the long march, he added.

The PDM is united and there is a consensus on March 26 date to start the long march, he continued.

He criticised the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for threatening PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz for moving high court for cancellation of her bail claiming that she has been indulging in anti-state activities.

Maulana Fazal said who gave the authority to NAB to judge one’s loyalty to the country. The NAB is endorsing our claim that it is a mouth piece of the government, he continued.

About the recent election of Senate, Maulana Fazal said if a member betrays his party, it makes no difference.

He, however, said why party members change their loyalties is a serious question, and added that there must be pressure, lust or threats that force betrayals.

Chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI) Maulana Fazal claimed that the government has ruined the economy of the country.

He said the people have pinned their hopes on the PDM and assured the nation that it will not disappoint them.
