Punjab suspends police officers for negligence of duty at Minar-e-Pakistan

The Punjab government has suspended five police officers for negligence of duty at Minar-e-Pakistan, 14th August. The police force failed to rescue the woman from the brutal assault which lasted 2.5 hours.

On Firday, Chief Minister Usman Buzdar presided over a meeting to assess the investigation progress. Inam Ghani, Punjab IG, presented the report. The performance of the police officers was also reviewed and action was taken against 5 such officers.

On the orders of the CM DSP Badami Bagh Usman Haider and SHO Lorry Adda Mohammad Jamil were suspended. While Lahore DIG Operations Sajid Kayani, SSP Operations Syed Nadeem Abbas and Additional SP Operations Hassan Jahangir were removed from their posts.

Reportedly the Projector director and deputy director of Greater Iqbal Park have also been suspended by the provincial government.

CM Buzdar expressed his anger and dissappointment over police performance after the recent incidents in Lahore. He emphasized that the culprits would be punished severly.

Furthermore, medical report of the victim confirmed the assault. The woman’s neck, hands and ears were swollen. There were scratched on her left arm, back, legs and right side of her chest. The body was also covered with several other bruises.
