On Monday, Khalid Khurshid Khan of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was elected as Gilgit-Baltistan’s (GB) new Chief Minister by the GB Legislative Assembly. Khan secured a total of 22 votes while the joint opposition’s candidate Amjad Hussain managed to win 9 votes.
Speaker Amjad Hussain, chairman of the election session, proclaimed that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)’s Hussain was to be elected opposition leader in the GB Assembly.
Khalid Khurshid’s name was finalized after an entire consultation process with PTI’s central leadership.
Khan belongs to a notable political family from Astore, a region in GB, and joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on July 28, 2018.
