Proposal of 15pc special allowance for armed forces personnel sent to the cabinet

The Federal Ministry of Finance has sent a proposal to the cabinet regarding a special allowance amounting to 15 per cent of the basic salaries of the officers and youth of the armed forces.

Initially, the proposal was sent to Prime Minister Imran Khan for approval. However, the premier directed it to take up the matter with the cabinet.

As per the sources within the ministry, due to the delay in the interim report to increase the salaries of federal employees, a 10 per cent increment in basic pay was given to the civil servants in addition to the 25 per cent increase by way of a special allowance.

As per the recommendation of the Pay and Pension Commission, a summary was sent to the cabinet suggesting a 15 per cent special allowance, in addition to the 10 per cent increase in pay as announced in the budget of the fiscal year 2021-22, for the armed forces personnel.

The total salary increase for armed forces personnel will be 25 per cent if the cabinet approves the proposal. This would require the allocation of an additional Rs38 billion.

As per the Ministry of Finance sources, since there was no increase in salaries of armed force employees for the last two years, a 15 per cent special allowance was recommended to bridge the gap in salaries.

25 per cent special allowance has already been announced for civil servants.
