Private schools in Islamabad will be staging protests this week against the government’s decision to close schools due to COVID-19.
All Private Schools Management and Association (APSMA) and the All Pakistan Private Schools Federation (APPSF) will protest on April 6, while Pakistan Schools and Colleges Association will protest on April 8. Both demonstrations will be held at the Constitution Avenue.
“Across the world, online classes have given dissatisfactory results,” All Private Schools Management Association Sindh Chairperson Haider Ali said, adding that closing schools would amount to huge educational losses for students and loss of livelihood for teachers and staff.
Private schools had also protested the government’s decision to close schools in March, and insisted on remaining open with a strict implementation of COVID standard operating procedures (SOPs).
The Sindh government on Sunday suspended schools up to 8th grade for 15 days due to the surge in coronavirus cases across the country.
The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) will be meeting all education ministers on Tuesday to decide on further action to be taken regarding closing or reopening educational institutions.
Meanwhile, students across the country have been protesting against taking physical board and Cambridge O and A-Level exams in the midst of the third wave of COVID-19, and have been urging government authorities to cancel examinations for this year.
