The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has decided to give an “aggressive” response to the show-cause notice issued by the opposition alliance, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), of which the party is a component.
The party insiders revealed on Tuesday that Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has directed senior leaders to draft a “strong worded” reply to the show-cause notice.
Sources said that on the direction of the chairman, Sherry Rehman, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Farhatullah Babar, Nayyar Bukhari and others will draft a reply which will be sent to Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal for approval.
Sources said that the matter was discussed during the Central Executive Committee meeting convened immediately after the issuance of the show-cause notice and it was decided to give an aggressive response instead of using a conciliatory tone.
The PDM had issued show-cause notices to the PPP and the Awami National Party (ANP) on the election of Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani as the opposition leader in the Senate.
The PDM leadership had asked the PPP to explain why it reportedly approached the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) to seek support for Gillani. The BAP is a coalition partner of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the Centre and Balochistan.
