Pakistan remembers the martyred on APS’ 6th anniversary

The attack that killed more than 140 people spurred Pakistan into tackling domestic terrorism like never before but trauma and grief still remains diluted

Today, Pakistan is remembering the tragic incident of Army Public School (APS) which still sends shivers up the spine. Six years ago, on 16 December 2014, Taliban gunmen stormed APS school in Peshawar. More than 150 people lost their lives among which 132 were children.

Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan tweeted that nation remains determined in the fight against terrorism.

Notable politicians also shared their thoughts about the unfortunate incident that took place 6 years ago. Shireen Mazari, the Minister for Human Rights tweeted.

Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in his message on the 6th martyrdom anniversary saluted the martyred students and their brave parents, whose immeasurable agony can only be felt by the families of those who also had their loved ones martyred by terrorists. “Being the son of a martyr Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, I, and the PPP, stand in complete solidarity with these parents,” he added.

The Minister for Planning and Development, Asad Umar lauded the bravery of the injured boy whom he visited on the night of the attack

Many people are of the view that this incident galvanized Pakistan’s resolve in the fight against terrorism. After the attack, all political parties and armed forces sat together in fighting this menace and the distinction between ‘good and bad Taliban’ ended. All stakeholders in Pakistan with consensus approved a National Action Plan (NAP), a 20 point agenda to curb terrorism in the country.

The APS survivors and parents of the martyred children still are unable to forget this unfortunate day. They have developed multiple diseases, including depression, hypertension and diabetes as the tragedy was beyond their imagination.
