The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has finally decided to contest the Senate elections, putting at rest speculations about its expected boycott of the process.
The decision was taken at a parliamentary party meeting of the party after a go ahead given by Nawaz Sharif.
The PML-N had been saying that it would not participate in the polls, a stance jointly taken by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) alliance, calling in question the legitimacy of the 2018 general elections.
PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz informed the meeting about Nawaz Sharif’s nod to the Senate polls.
It is learnt that the PDM leaders have also started consultations to contest the Senate elections due to be held in February. They are considering fielding joint candidates in the polls. The PML-N is convincing the alliance in this regard and appeasing PPP to support PML-N in Punjab. A meeting will be summoned soon to discuss the strategy.
Meanwhile, the opposition leaders have started consultations to field joint candidates in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan assemblies.
