PM Imran reiterates holding Senate elections early

Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that Senate election would be held before time, reiterating comments made by Information Minister Shibli Faraz a day before.

He was talking to journalists in Peshawar on Wednesday.

Mr Khan said the election would be held by show of hands instead of secret ballot, adding that this decision was taken as parliamentarians in the past had been involved in horse-trading.

The Prime Minister said he had previously expelled 20 MPAs for horse-trading. He said opposition had suggested amendments to the 18th Amendment, but lamented that all these suggestions were meant to cut the power of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Prime Minister Khan said once again that he would not give NRO to the opposition.

Meanwhile, Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said the government could hold Senate election on February 3.
