PM Imran likely to visit Tashkent next month to attend Central Asian summit

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan is likely to visit Tashkent, Uzbekistan, next month to participate in the Central Asian Connectivity Summit.

The summit that is going to be held on July 15 and 16 is Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s initiative who extended the invitation to the premier.

India Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also reportedly participate in the event and this would be the first in two years that the Pakistani and Indian premiers would be under the same roof.

Last month, Pakistan and Uzbekistan exchanged goods through Afghanistan for the first time, in a move hailed as a milestone for regional economic integration. The project has received technical and financial support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The agency said the initiative is intended to “boost regional trade integration and connectivity.”
