The Federal Cabinet has constituted a three member committee to investigate the Broadsheet LLC scandal, with Prime Minister Imran Khan as chairman. Senator Shibli Faraz, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, stated that the committee, convened by the Minister himself, would constitute Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari and Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain.
The committee has been tasked with forming recommendations within 48 hours, against members involved in the Broadsheet case. On Monday, Mirza Shahzad Akbar Special Adviser to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Interior and Accountability shared the details of the judgements against Pakistan in the Broadsheet case. The move was made after Prime Minister Imran Khan ordered the judgement to be released to the public.
Kaveh Moussavi has been largely vocal about the entire episode, stating that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) engaged with Broadsheet and signed an agreement to investigate 200 people.
He further said that the government owed them $100 million for investigation and recovery from six individuals. Furthermore, he claims that the firm had delivered evidence of Nawaz Sharif’s London apartments in 2000. Broadsheet demanded $21.5 million for arranging the evidence.
The Pakistan government paid $31 million in December 2020, including interest payment.
