PDM ‘fully united’ for Senate election, says Fazal

ISLAMABAD: The Chief of opposition alliance, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman has said that it is “fully united” for the March 3 Senate election.

He was addressing the media on Sunday after a meeting with Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The Maulana said the PDM leadership will hold meetings after the Senate elections to devise a new strategy.

He claimed that the PDM is the only voice of the people and by getting rid of such rulers it will do a great service to the masses.

On a question that whether the PDM is an electoral alliance, he clarified that the component parties will not confront each other in the election.

The head of his own faction of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI), Maulan Fazal said the ruling party thought that the alliance will break, but the PDM is united and will contest Senate election as a single unit.

He claimed that the ruling PTI is demoralised and expressed the hope that the alliance will come out victorious in the Senate election.

The Maulana said the PDM has adopted a different strategy for the Senate election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

PPP Chairman Bilawal said the PDM had challenged the PTI government on every front and the upcoming Senate election will prove that even its lawmakers are not with the government.

He said the PDM is ready for both the open ballot and secret ballot.

Bilawal challenged the PTI that the alliance will hit the government in its home base and vowed to give it tough time in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He ridiculed the PTI saying that there are candidates like PPP’s Yusuf Raza Gilani and “PTIMF” candidate, a reference to Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh.

Bilawal said the victory of the PML-N on five seats in the Punjab will benefit the alliance in electing the Senate chairman.

He claimed that the PDM had negotiated with the PTI’s ally in Karachi the MQM-P and expressed the hope that it will side with the opposition.

Bilawal said besides the MQM-P, the alliance negotiated with the members of the PTI government and other allies of the regime.

Regarding the hearing of the petition of the open ballot in the Supreme Court, Bilwal said the apex court will decide the matter according to the Constitution and the law.
