Pakistan recorded 3,012 new COVID-19 cases and 66 deaths over the last 24 hours, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) said on Thursday.
The NCOC said that the country’s number of overall confirmed cases has risen to 1,215,821.
Over the last 24 hours, 3,897 patients have recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,112,236, said the NCOC.
With 66 more deaths to coronavirus over the last 24 hours, Pakistan’s overall toll went up to 27,004, according to the NCOC, adding that 5,039 are in critical condition.
According to the NCOC portal, 56,778 people were tested for coronavirus across the country in the last 24 hours, of which 3,012 contracted the virus. It showed that the positivity rate fell further to 5.30 percent.
Sindh province is the worst-affected region by the pandemic with 447,678 infections, followed by the Punjab which has reported 418,196 cases. Islamabad has registered 103,549 cases, while 169,972 cases have been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Balochistan has reported 32,671 cases. Azad Jammu and Kashmir 33,551 cases and GB has reported 10,204 infections.
According to government officials, the vaccination process is in full swing in Pakistan. The country has administered 71,311,567 doses of vaccine so far and has fully vaccinated 23,241,257 people as of Wednesday night, said the NCOC.
Talking about the COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) on Wednesday, Special Assistant to the Pakistani Prime Minister on Health Faisal Sultan said that there was still pressure on the healthcare system, particularly related to oxygen, and therefore COVID-19 restrictions would remain enforced.
