Pakistani filmmaker’s ‘Himalayan Meltdown’ wins in Japan

The film explores how diminishing water supply from melting glaciers can lead to environmental and geopolitical crises.

‘Pakistan’s Himalayan Meltdown’ by filmmaker Shehzad Hameed Ahmad has won the Green Image Award in Japan. The 8th Green Image Film Festival received a total of 177 film submissions from all over the globe, out of which only 12 were shortlisted, including Ahmad’s documentary.

The film explores how diminishing water supply from melting glaciers can lead to environmental and geopolitical crises.

The filmmaker also won the Best Documentary award for another film of his at the Tagore International Film Festival 2021.

“My team went on a journey across the south Asian nation to understand why three quarters of the country is inundated by its rivers bursting their banks every year. On this journey, we investigate how floods threaten the country’s food security,” he tweeted regarding his documentary ‘Bangladesh’s Delta Disaster’.
