United States President Joe Biden has written a letter to President Arif Alvi to congratulate the latter on Pakistan Day, as he sought to strengthen partnership with Islamabad to achieve common goals in the region.
In the letter, the US president said the Pakistan-US ties were based on the common goal of “regional peace and prosperity”.
“Both countries will continue to work together to address common challenges, especially peace in Afghanistan, the coronavirus pandemic, and climate change,” the letter shared by the president on Twitter read. The US president also congratulated Alvi on Pakistan Resolution Day.
The 81st Pakistan Day is being celebrated amid renewed and tighter coronavirus restrictions across the country with great zeal. The day is being celebrated to commemorate the historic “Lahore Resolution” adopted on March 23, 1940, that led to the creation of Pakistan in 1947.
The Pakistan Day parade has been postponed in the light of inclement weather. According to the military’s media wing, the parade will now be held on March 25.
Meanwhile, the surge of COVID-19 cases in the country with the arrival of the third wave also casts doubt on the parade proceedings. Last year, the government had cancelled the Pakistan Day parade as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
