In the last 24 hours, 75 people lost their lives due to COVID-19, highest single day tally since July while 2829 people tested positive, according to the National Command and Control Centre (NCOC).
On Tuesday, the federal government approved a grant of $150 million to procure COVID-19 vaccine. Dr Faisal Sultan, Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Health said this in a media briefing after the cabinet meeting.
He told that a certain criterion has been set to procure the vaccine which includes the efficacy, level of safety and cold chain requirements. Also, a few pharmaceutical companies have been shortlisted for this purpose. “We will tap the several options for the purchase of vaccine and also consider the production capacity of the firm to ensure smooth supply in the country.”
As of December 2, the total active COVID-19 cases in the country are 49,780. Yesterday, around 35,197 tests were conducted with Sindh conducting 9,752; Punjab: 15,239; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 4,204; Islamabad: 5,008; Balochistan: 271; Gilgit-Baltistan: 336 and Azad Kashmir: 387
Out of 1746 vents allocated for COVID-19, 311 are currently occupied. There is no patient on the vent in GB and Balochistan.
A total of 403,311 cases have been detected so far in the country (AJK 6982, Balochistan 17215, GB 4667, ICT 30748, KP 47701, Punjab 120356, Sindh 175642)
Total recoveries in the country from the virus now stand at 345,365 taking the recovery rate to 85.6 percent.
Till now, 8166 people lost their lives due to the deadly virus in Pakistan while the death rate stands at 2 percent.
