Pakistan, Russia to finish PGSP

In a technical session, Pakistan and Russia agreed to follow the timelines laid down to successfully implement the Pakistan Gas Stream Pipeline project.

The technical session was held in Islamabad from August 24-26, 2021.

The Russian delegation was led by Pakstream LLC CEO Vladimir I Shcherbatykh while the Pakistani side was represented by Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) Secretary Dr Arshad Mahmood and ISGS Managing Director Syed Zikria Ali Shah.

Pakstream LLC was nominated by Moscow under the Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) signed between Pakistan and the Russian Federation in May 2021 while Islamabad nominated ISGS.

“The Pakistan Stream Gas Pipeline project is a reflection of the expanding bilateral relations between Pakistan and the Russian Federation,” it said. “It shall act as a catalyst for strengthening relations between the two countries.”

During the three-day meeting, both sides apprised each other of the progress made so far on the project.

The parties decided to expedite technical studies and surveys as well as agreed to further fast-track work at the planning stage including field surveys, reconnaissance surveys and studies.

Both countries also deliberated on technical specifications of the pipeline, its design parameters and transmission of re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) from Karachi to Kasur.
