Pakistan reports over 4,000 new COVID cases, 536 patients on ventilators

Pakistan has reported 4,007 new infections and 88 deaths due to coronavirus over the past 24 hours.

According to the data provided by National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the total number of deaths due to the deadly virus has reached 20,177. 536 ventilators are occupied across Pakistan.

Punjab has reported most deaths from COVID as 9,739 people lost their lives due to the virus. Sindh has seen 4,891 deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed 3,900 deaths, Balochistan 270 deaths, while Islamabad has reported 744 since the pandemic gripped Pakistan in Feb last year. In Azad Kashmir, 526 have died so far.

The number of total active coronavirus cases in Pakistan is 63,436 as of May 22.

On May 21, at least 62,238 tests were conducted across Pakistan. In Sindh, 24,299 tests were conducted, in Punjab, 23152 tests; in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 8,471 tests were conducted; in Islamabad, 3,661 tests were conducted; in Balochistan, 1,455 tests were conducted and in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, 387 and 813 tests were conducted, respectively.
