Pakistan registers over 2500 cases in the last 24 hours, highest day tally since July 13

Pakistan recorded 2,547 cases and 18 deaths in the last 24 hours. This is the highest number of cases registered in a single day for over four months.

To stem the control of the virus the Punjab government has also imposed smart lockdowns in different areas of Multan, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Bhakkar, Bahawalpur and Sargodha that were identified as “hotspots” of the virus.

According to the notifications issued by the Punjab health department, the lockdown will remain in place until November 28.

There will be “controlled entry and exit” in areas where lockdowns are being imposed, the notifications said.

Other restrictions include:

  • closure of markets, shopping malls, offices and restaurants
  • ban on movement through public or private transport “except for the limited movement of one person per vehicle to and from the exempted facilities”
  • ban on gatherings of all kinds

Grocery stores, pharmacies, bakeries, dairy shops etc will be allowed to remain open.

To counter the second wave of COVID-19, Sindh government has also decided to reopen its High Dependency Unit (HDU’s) in Karachi.

According to the latest data provided by the National Command and Control Centre (NCOC), the total active COVID-19 cases in Pakistan stand at 32,005. In the last 24 hours, around 36,899 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours with Sindh conducting 11,960 tests; Punjab: 13,754; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 3,025; ICT: 6,132; Balochistan: 841; Gilgit Baltistan: 240 and Azad Kashmir: 947

Out of 1806 vents allocated for COVID-19 in the country, 234 vents are currently occupied.

A total of 365,927 cases detected so far (AJK 5690, Balochistan 16582, GB 4482, ICT 25278, KP 43052, Punjab 112284, Sindh 158559)

Till now, Pakistan has recorded 7248 deaths due to the virus.
