Smart Lockdown imposed in six localities of Lahore

The country's death toll climbed to 12,066 after 40 people succumbed to the deadly disease

In a bid to stem the spread of COVID-19, the Government of Punjab has imposed lockdown in six areas of Lahore. These areas include Allama Iqbal Town, Bedian Road, Defence Phase III and V, Faisal Town and Manawan, according to a notification issued by the Punjab Primary and Secondary Health Care Department.

The above mentioned localities have been sealed for the next two weeks. All medical shops will be remain open. Milk and meat shops will be open from 7am to 7pm while grocery stores, fruits and vegetable shops will function from 9am to 7pm.

In the last 24 hours, 1,008 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Pakistan while 40 lost their lives, according to the latest statistics released by the National Command and Control Centre (NCOC). Most casualties were seen in the province of Punjab followed by Sindh.

As of February 9, the total active COVID-19 cases in Pakistan stand at 31,265. Yesterday, 31,509 tests were conducted with Sindh conducting 10,205; Punjab: 10,858; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 5,703; Islamabad: 3,557; Balochistan: 513; Gilgit-Baltistan: 341 and Azad Kashmir: 332.

Out of 1,756 ventilators reserved for COVID-19 patients in the country, 254 ventilators are currently occupied. There is no patient on the ventilator in AJK, GB and Balochistan.

A total of 556,519 cases have been detected so far in the country with AJK reporting 9,238; Balochistan: 18,877; GB: 4,918; ICT: 42,080, KPK: 68,625; Punjab: 161,347 and Sindh: 251,434.

Till now, Pakistan has recorded 12,066 deaths. Punjab is on top of the list with 4,919 casualties followed by Sindh: 4,132; KPK: 1,964; Islamabad: 480; Balochistan: 196; GB: 102 and AJK: 273.

631 hospitals in Pakistan are equipped with COVID-19 facilities with 2,219 patients being treated. Till now, Pakistan has conducted 8,256,378 tests.
