Pakistan records 4,537 new COVID-19 cases, 86 fatalities

The fourth wave of COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc in the country as Pakistan recorded over 4,000 infections for the third consecutive day. In the last 24 hours, 4,537 people tested positive while 86 lost their lives according to the latest statistics released by the National Command and Control Centre (NCOC).

As of July 30, the total active cases in Pakistan stand at 62,723. On Thursday, 58,203 tests were conducted across the country with positivity rate recorded at 7.7%.

Sindh worst affected

As Sindh grapples with the fourth wave, there are suggestions that the province go into a 2-week lockdown in a bid to contain the virus. The government is expected to make a decision on this after consulting with various stakeholders.

Secretary-General of the Pakistan Medical Association Dr Qaiser Sajjad has expressed serious concerns about the 30% positivity rate reported for Karachi.

“If we count those people who have not taken a PCR test for COVID-19, the positivity ratio in the city has likely reached 40%,” he said this while talking to a local TV channel
