ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has recalled its ambassador stationed in Saudi Arabia in the light of the allegations levelled against the Pakistani embassy in Riyadh.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, six officers have also been called back in the light of the allegations that implicate the embassy staffers of extorting and mistreating the Pakistani labourers working in the Kingdom.
The envoy, Raja Ejaz Ali, was to retire on May 18.
Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan had said that a high-powered investigation into the misconduct of the embassy staff in Saudi Arabia with the Pakistani labourers and workers.
In a comment on these allegations, the Foreign Office said the prime minister’s directions are being fully implemented.
“The ambassador of Pakistan to Saudi Arabia has already been recalled and orders have been issued for the recall[ing] of six more officers of the diplomatic, community welfare, and consular wings of the Embassy,” the FO added.
