Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad raised questions about the alleged threats to the New Zealand cricket team in Pakistan.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore on Monday, Rashid was furious and said that the team from New Zealand expressed satisfaction at security arrangements by Pakistan. The cricket team landed in Pakistan and had been practicing in Rawalpindi for four days.
Where were the five countries that issued the threat alert when security experts were visiting Pakistan, questioned the minister.
He expressed frustration over the New Zealand team’s announcement to postpone the series on the so-called security issues, saying that country did not have as many forces as it had been given by the Pakistan government for team’s security.
Rashid said that no cricket is being played in India due to the coronavirus.
He said we have been targeted on the flimsy ground of “Islamic extremism”. The world should respect sacrifices rendered by Pakistan during “war on terror.”
Responding to the opposition’s criticism on the return of the New Zealand team, he expressed regrets on their approach and said the day is not far when teams from all cricket playing nations would play in Pakistan.
The New Zealand cricket team abandoned the tour to Pakistan on Friday just before the start of first One-day International match in Rawalpindi on the “security threat”.
