Pakistan condemns drone attack on Abha airport in Saudi Arabia

Pakistan has strongly condemned Houthi militants’ drone attacks on Abha International Airport in Saudi Arabia.

The Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that “these attacks threaten peace and security of Saudi Arabia, as well as the region. We call for immediate cessation of such attacks.”

The statement said “Pakistan reiterates its full support and solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia against any threats to its security and territorial integrity.”

Meanwhile, Yemen’s Houthi group said it carried out a drone attack on Saudi Arabia’s Abha airport on Wednesday causing a fire in a civilian aircraft.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said four drones were used in the attack on Abha airport, in southern Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday afternoon.

Houthi movement regularly launches drones and missiles into Saudi Arabia, many of which forces destroy. Some have previously hit Abha airport, about 120 kilometres from the border with Yemen.

A coalition statement said the attempt to target Abha airport was a war crime and put civilian travellers’ lives in danger.

Earlier on Wednesday, the coalition said it had destroyed two armed drones launched towards civilians in Saudi Arabia.
