No-trust: PM Imran in Karachi to seek ally MQM-P’s ‘assurance’

Prime Minister Imran Khan is visiting Karachi on Wednesday to meet the MQM-P leadership, its main ally in Sindh, to seek their assurance ahead of voting on the no-confidence motion tabled by the joint opposition a day ago.

Insiders said that Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, who is in Islamabad these days, and several federal ministers also accompanying the premier on this “crucial” visit.

The prime minister’s hurriedly planned visit is a bid to defeat the no-confidence move by getting the support of PTI’s allies and redress their grievances.

Apart from his visit to MQM-P’s temporary head office in Karachi’s Bahadurabad area, PM Imran will also attend a ceremony of the government’s Ehsaas Programme at the National Stadium and meet PTI’s Sindh MPAs at the Governor House, they added.

Moreover, he will address a public gathering at the Governor House as well and leave for Islamabad in the evening.

PIR PAGARA: The ruling party had also contacted the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional for scheduling a meeting of the party president with the prime minister.

However, PML-F President Pir Pagara wouldn’t be able to meet PM Imran due to his illness and other pre-planned engagements in his hometown, said a party spokesperson.

Spokesperson Saira Bano stated that the coalition would continue to support the incumbent government.

She said that Pir Sadruddin Shah (Pir Pagara) is currently in Khairpur for personal engagements.

The PTI leadership is making contacts to all the allies and disgruntled MPs to win over their support ahead of crucial voting on the no-trust motion.

The joint opposition had filed the motion on Tuesday after completing their “homework” and “ensuring” that they have the required numbers to remove the PTI government.
