No treasury member or ally objected to mini budget, says Fawad

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has said that no treasury member or the allies have any objections to the mini budget.

Talking to a private news channel on Wednesday night, he said the International Monetary has scaled down the previous Rs700 billion worth of conditions by half.

As a result of softening of IMF’s conditions, there’s no need to panic as power tariffs have already been adjusted, he added.

He expressed the hope that “the mini budget will pass smoothly and will bring about confidence in the markets.”

Replying to a question, the minister said that yesterday’s meeting of the federal cabinet had to be cancelled as there was no session of the National Assembly scheduled.

About the government’s role in bringing former prime minister Nawaz Sharif back to Pakistan, Fawad said it is the responsibility of the Lahore High Court (LHC) judges, who accepted the affidavit of Shehbaz Sharif, to take action against him.

The government is moving the LHC for the purpose, he said, adding that the LHC should have taken a suo motu notice of the issue as Shehbaz failed to honour his guarantee in which he assured the court that he would “ensure the return” of his brother.

It would be easy to bring back Nawaz Sharif once an agreement is reached with the British government.

“If Nawaz Sharif does not come back to Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif will have to go to jail,” he concluded.
