Pakistan batting line collapsed in the first five overs of the first Twenty20 against New Zealand; only a lower-order fight-back by Pakistan allowed it to close the innings at 153 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.
Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first. Pakistan’s top order – Abdullah Shafique, Haider Ali, Muhammad Hafeez and Muhammad Rizwan – were back to pavilion in the first five overs with just 20 runs on the board.
Skipper Shadab Khan scored 42 from 32 balls before being dismissed by Black Caps debutant Jacob Duffy.
In response consistent batting by the Black Caps – anchored by Tim Seifert’s solid 57 – and clean hitting at the death by Jimmy Neesham ended the match comfortably for the New Zealanders with with seven balls to spare.
