Govt agrees to release TLP workers detained under MPO, says interior minister

The government has agreed to table a resolution in the parliament for debate through a private member on the matter of expulsion of the French ambassador, said Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed in a video message.

After the “successful” third round of talks with the proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) that ended late night, the government has also agreed to release those workers arrested under 3 and 16 MPO (Maintenance of Public Order). The arrested TLP workers will be dealt with according to the Criminal Procedure Code.

The interior minister announced in the wee hours today that the government and banned outfit Tehrik-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) have reached an agreement. He said the government will table a resolution on the expulsion of the French ambassador in the National Assembly later today.

“After detailed discussions with TLP it has been agreed that the government will table the resolution in the National Assembly today,” he added.

He said that the TLP had agreed to call off protests across the country. The cases registered against TLP workers under the Fourth Schedule will be withdrawn.

Meanwhile, Faizabad intersection in Rawalpindi has been sealed to stop the TLP from assembling after its planned long march today. Internet service will likely to remain suspended today.
