NCOC proposes summer break for schools from July 18

The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has proposed that schools and other educational institutions should go on summer break from July 18.

The NCOC has suggested that summer break should be taken from July 18 to August 1, according to a local newspaper. On the other hand, the Punjab government has asked to give summer break from July 2 to August 2.

The final decision on this matter will be taken by the Inter-Provincial Education Conference (IPEC) headed by Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood.

A few weeks back, Punjab Education Minister Murad Raas has said the dates for summer vacations will be announced within two weeks.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, the minister said the government is aware of the problems that children are facing due to hot weather.

He said that in case of an extraordinary situation, the authorities will act accordingly.

The Punjab government has already changed the timings for all private and public schools from 7:00am to 11:30am due to the extremely hot weather.

Students at schools in Sialkot and Islamabad had fainted due to the heat and were taken to hospital for treatment, forcing the government to revise the schedule.

“Let them take examinations and we will give them vacations. It is wrong to promote students without examinations for two consecutive years,” Raas said.

He said that the curriculum has been reduced further and the examinations were only for elective subjects.
