A maiden four-wicket haul by Shahnawaz Dhani and a match-winning partnership between captain Mohammad Rizwan and Sohaib Maqsood steered Multan Sultans to a thumping win against Peshawar Zalmi.
In the first innings , Peshawar Zalmi, put into bat, smashed 71 runs for the opening partnership.
Opener Kamran Akmal scoring a 35 and Haider Ali chipping in with an uncharacteristic 30-ball 28. Rutherford played 40 balls and scored 56 runs with two fours and four sixes.
In their final five overs, Zalmi scored 56 runs with Rutherford dominating the scoring and helped Peshawar Zalmi set a 167-run target for the Multan Sultans
Shahnawaz Dhani claimed the first four important wickets, removing Shoaib Malik on the first ball and then Rovman Powell, who was brilliantly caught by Mohammad Rizwan to become the leading wicket-taker in this season of the PSL.
In response, captain Rizwan and Sohaib then stitched a 116-run partnership from 76 balls to set up Sultans’ win with 21 balls to spare.
Mohammad Rizwan continued his prolific form and stroked his 20th half century in his 136th T20 match. He remained unbeaten on 82 from 56. Sohaib Maqsood played made a blistering 61 off just 31 balls which included four fours and five sixes.
Points Table Situation
Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars are on top of the table with 10 points each, followed by Peshawar Zalmi (eight), Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans (both six points). Quetta Gladiators are already out of the playoffs’ race after losing six matches in seven outings.
