Misbah-ul-Haq to quit as Pakistan’s chief selector

Former Pakistan captain Misbah ul Haq has decided to relinquish his role as the Chairman of Selectors of the National team. He will continue to work as Pakistan’s head coach.

After being handed the unprecedented influence over Pakistan Cricket a year ago, Misbah has decided to give up one role.

From the very start, Misbah was under the pump for his dual role. He was initially part of the committee which reviewed Micky Arthur’s tenure and applied for the role just hours before the deadline. Many people were of the view that Misbah doesn’t have the adequate experience to hold such high position.

Of Misbah’s numerous roles, his position as head coach of a PSL franchise Islamabad United and the national team raised questions of a potential conflict of interest.

There have been talks of lessening Misbah’s burden after the England tour. According to a PCB source, a high-profile former fast bowler is under consideration to replace Misbah as the chief selector.

“The PCB now feels that it is best if the burden was reduced on Misbah and allow him to focus on his job as head coach as there are a number of important ICC events coming up in the next three years,”

Misbah Ul Haq will formally make the announcement in a press conference at 1:30 pm
