Massive anti-encroachment drive launched, mostly PML-N politicians caught in the net

Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab – an attached department of Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD), Government of the Punjab – has started a mega operation against land encroachment in the province.

Among the 50 cases mentioned in the list issued by ACE on Monday, the vast majority of respondents belong to the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), including prominent opposition politicians such as Khawaja Asif, Ghulam Dastagir Khan and Javed Hashmi.

Apart from a few cases, the majority of FIRs have been filed in 2020.

Speaking to media in Sialkot on January 24, Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said that, on the direction of CM Usman Buzdar, without accepting any political pressure, an impartial operation is being conducted against land mafia across the province.

PML-N on the other hand has protested this “targeted campaign” against its politicians, saying that the anti-corruption infrastructure is being used in a biased manner.
