Maryam questions who authorised NAB to adjudge her statements

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz castigated the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday for calling her statements “anti-state” and questioned who authorised it to adjudge her.

Talking to the media at her Jati Umra residence in Lahore before a hearing in the Lahore High Court on a NAB petition for cancellation of her bail in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case, Maryam vehemently criticised the NAB reminding the watchdog that its prime responsibility is to stop corruption.

Have you been given a new responsibility after failing to perform your assigned duty, she questioned.

Maryam alleged that the NAB is lying when it said that she is not cooperating and issuing statements against the state and its institutions.

She said she had been in NAB custody for three months and the officials questioned her even about her books and parties.

She said every state institution has its spokesperson, who has appointed NAB as the spokesperson.

The PML-N leader claimed that the NAB has been turned into an institution to harass opponents of Imran Khan. She challenged him to face her and stop using the shoulder of high court and the NAB.

About Senate elections, Maryam said seven votes of Yousaf Raza Gilani were cancelled on frivolous grounds.

She said the PDM will move the court against the “rigging” and expressed the hope that the court will decide in favour of Yousaf Raza Gilani.

Maryam denied that she was going abroad. Unless the government is removed, she will not leave the country even if she is presented her passport or a ticket, she said determinedly.

Maryam Nawaz was arrested by NAB in August 2019 and released on bail in November against two surety bonds worth Rs10 million each, and an additional Rs70m as well as surrendering her passport.
