Maryam advises govt not to interfere in Afghanistan’s internal affairs

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz has said that Pakistan should accept the decision of the Afghan people and stay away from the country’s internal affairs.

Talking to media in Islamabad on Wednesday she said that Afghanistan is an independent country and “Pakistan should not impose its decisions on it.”

“We should not interfere in the internal politics and affairs of Afghanistan,” she said while replying to question about interim setup announced by the Taliban on Tuesday.

The people of Afghanistan have been living in unrest due to foreign invasion for the last four decades, she added.

Maryam said that Pakistan should work with the international community for the rehabilitation of the Afghan people as well as the reconstruction of the country.

Maryam accused the PTI government of suppressing rival political parties.

She also hinted at filing a new petition in a court which will expose “actual grounds” of the case.

Refusing to divulge details of the petition, Maryam said her lawyers were preparing the plea which would be substantial in proceeding with the case.

“If the issues highlighted in the plea, I am going to file are not taken into consideration, then I will feel the justice is not served.”

AVENFIELD CASE: The Islamabad High Court gave Maryam Nawaz time to hire a new lawyer before September 23 for her plea challenging the sentence awarded to her in the Avenfield Reference.

A two-member bench, comprising Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhter Kiyani, is hearing the pleas filed by Maryam and her husband Captain Safdar.

Maryam maintained that her lawyer, Advocate Amjad Parvez, has excused himself from further representing her case due to an illness.

She moved the court to grant her an extension to hire a new lawyer.
