Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali will table a resolution in the National Assembly today, urging the government to declare Friday as a weekly holiday.

“This House is of the opinion that the government should take steps to declare Friday as a weekly holiday,” said the agenda shared on the National Assembly.

In 2019, it was reported that the government may announce Friday as the official weekly holiday instead of Sunday in a bid to strengthen business ties with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates — both countries have Friday as the weekly off.

Earlier in the day, NA Speaker Asad Qaiser summoned the session of the National Assembly in the light of the government’s agreement with the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan. The session that was supposed to convene on Thursday was rescheduled to Tuesday in the wake of the new developments.

The interior minister promised the far-right party that the government will table a resolution in the assembly seeking the expulsion of the French envoy. However, this resolution is not part of the agenda.
