Kohat Cement to set a plant in Khushab in next 2 to 2.5 years

KARACHI: Kohat Cement Company Limited (KCCL) plans to set a cement plant in Punjab’s Khushab area along with waste heat recovery and coal-fired power plants, the company said in a statement to the Pakistan Stock Exchange today.

“The total estimated cost of the project is PKR 30 billion,” the statement said. “It shall be financed through a mix of Debt and Equity, and it is expected that construction and installation of the plant shall be completed in 2 to 2.5 years.” It added. The approval of the plan by the company’s board is subjected to all regulatory approvals. The company has approved a plan of setting up a plant that will have the capacity to produce 7,800 to 10,000 tons of cement per day, while it will have 8 to 10 Megawatt Waste Heat Recovery and 25-megawatt coal-fired power plants.

The State Cement Corporation of Pakistan (SCCP) established a 1000 tons per day Romanian cement line at Kohat in 1984. The government of Pakistan in open bidding in 1992 privatized the company.

Kohat Cement went into an extensive balancing, modernization and replacement program in 1995 funded by a public offering and a commercial debt. The plant’s capacity was enhanced to 1,800 tons per day, converted to coal firing and established a white cement plant with a capacity of 450 tons per day. The company also built a grey cement line of 6,700 tons per day capacity and established a standby power plant with 22.4 megawatts.

In 1994, Kohat Cement Company was listed on Pakistan’s stock exchanges, and an initial public offer was made in which 2,193,334 ordinary shares were issued to the general public at Rs 52 per share.

In 2002, KCCL entered into the export markets in addition to the domestic markets and won the KSE top 25 companies award 2013.
