Almost nine people were killed while several others were injured in a factory in the New Karachi industrial area on Tuesday night. Reports reveal that as many as 29 people have been injured in the incident that occurred due to a boiler explosion in the factory.
Rescue workers and the district police reached the site minutes after the explosion, barricading the area for safety. Police officials believe the blast erupted inside a cold storage facility, adding that the building and its infrastructure had been greatly damaged. Several people are expected to be buried underneath the rubble, officials said.
The factory is located in Sector 12-C of New Karachi Industrial Area near Saba Cinema.
Sindh’s Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has ordered an investigation into the incident and asked the Labor Department for a report.
