Kanye West officially changes name to ‘Ye’

Kanye is officially Ye

A Los Angeles judge approved the application of the producer, rapper, and fashion designer to legally change his name from Kanye Omari West to just Ye with no middle or last name.

In the court documents, Judge Michelle Williams Court said, “There being no objections, the petition for change of name is granted.”

The petition was filed on August 24 and cited that the artist want to change his name for “personal reasons.”

The singer has been calling himself Ye on his social media pages for years. In 2018, He tweeted that he wanted the change the name saying, “the being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.”

He said, “So, I’m you. And I’m us. It’s us. It went from being Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye, just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused – everything. It’s more of a reflection of who we are as beings.”

The moniker was also the title of his 2018 album. He has always said in interviews that along with being a shortening of the first name he likes, adding that it’s also a word used throughout the Bible.

In August, his long-awaited 10th studio album ‘Donda’ was finally released after several delays. The 27-track album is 108 minutes long and is named after his late mother.

The 44-year-old is in the middle of a divorce with Kim Kardashian West, who did not ask that her last name be changed back to just Kardashian when she filed to split from him in February. The couple’s four children also have his former last name.
